Our Story Uncovered

About Gatlinburg Roots

Gatlinburg Roots is dedicated to preserving the real history of Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. Through rare photographs, documented family stories, archival records, and firsthand accounts, this project protects the names, places, and people who shaped White Oak Flats and the mountain community that followed. History does not preserve itself — and within three generations, a name can fade from memory. Gatlinburg Roots exists to make sure that doesn’t happen here. If you have old photographs or family stories connected to these mountains, share them. What is remembered survives.

We’re preserving the real stories, names, and places that built Gatlinburg — before memory fades and records disappear.

Gatlinburg Roots Heritage Club

Did you know Gatlinburg Roots has a private Heritage Club?

Beyond the public page, there is a quieter space where deeper research and family history are shared. The Heritage Club is a private, members-only group for those who want to go further than a public post allows. It’s where families and researchers share old photographs, family Bible pages, cemetery records, land deeds, handwritten notes, and stories passed down through generations.

This is where connections happen.
A name is posted — someone recognizes it.
A photograph appears — a location finally makes sense.
A question about a family line leads to answers that aren’t documented anywhere else.

The Heritage Club isn’t built around algorithms or visibility. It exists to preserve Gatlinburg’s history carefully, accurately, and with respect. If Gatlinburg or the Smoky Mountains are part of your family’s story, this is where those pieces begin to come together.
